An Official Word

I passed. There's loads of editing to do before final submission of the dissertation, but the 5 members of my committee saw fit to pass me, and even praised sections of the work as being "groundbreaking" and "fascinating". I for one am quite pleased.

Congratulations, Larry! Excellent news!

Now, according to Drout's Law of Ph.D.s, you are allowed to be a jerk and force even family members and casual acquaintances to address you as "Doctor Swain" for a number of weeks equal to the number of years you were in graduate school. You must also make at least one dinner reservation under the name of "Doctor Swain."

Seriously, it's a real accomplishment. Enjoy!

Hey--congrats on an accomplishment that's as much a professional milestone as it is a labor of love.
